Self-portraits on Paper
Finding Me Series, Number 2
Monotype print 30 x 20 cm, 2016
The Finding Me Series were created shortly after the passing of our daughter due to illness. As a creator in bereavement, it was particularly hard to reenter my studio and return to making art. This series grew out of my need to reexamine who I was at that time, as an artist and as a person.
Finding Me Series, Number 3
Monotype-print, 30 x 20 cm, 2016
The Finding Me series was an internal and emotional exploration of myself. Many are very far from my objective image. Some are an interior view rather than an observed view. Some were done from memory, some from a mirror and some let go of exterior aids, resulting in a visage that was barely human, as here.
Finding Me Series, Number 5
Monotype print 30 x 20 cm, 2016
This is a more observed approach from within the Finding Me series.
Finding Me Series, Number 6

This image combines emotional exporation with memory.

Early Israel Bowl Self-portrait
Mixed media, 20 x 20 x 6 cm, 2019 (enlarged)
The work is framed in an antique metallic early-Israel bowl, oxidized, and refers to the era during which I was born. It cradles my mature face and concretizes the idea of moving to Israel.

Self-portrait
In Middle East Copperwork Mirror, etching, 18 x 12 cm 1993
This hand-made mirror bought in the Jaffa flea market felt to me that it encapsuled my face in the now familiar Mizrachi eastern style, perhaps evidence of my adjustment to the local culture.
